Papers, 1940-1976.

The correspondence is arranged topically based on Lyons' original order and deals primarily with his efforts to publish his poetry and other works. The most complete period is 1951 to 1968. The manuscripts make up the major portion of the collection and include a number of his plays, poetry and prose. Plays include his The Front Steps and Untitled. The poetry manuscripts are arranged by title. The prose section contains the manuscript for the unpublished study, Anthology of North Dakota Writers, that he and Kenneth Kuhn of the NDSU English Department compiled as a project for the North Dakota Institute for Regional Studies. There are also drafts for his Paintings in Taxicabs and for his Poetry and Photographs: A Way into the Meaning of Space, Resources and Life Styles in North Dakota. There are also copies of his publications and poetry and reviews for some of them. The NDSU series includes material from the local chapter of the American Association of University Professors (1955-1964), the name change of NDAC, Institute for Regional Studies sponsored exhibitions, and about the Poetry North program series held on campus from 1966 to 1971. The art gallery programs include from Fort Ransom Summer Arts program, the Red River Art Center, and Rourke Art Gallery from 1960 to 1971.
